Welcome back to another episode recap of the Frantic Nerdcast! Episode 102 was an absolute jam-packed session. We addressed rumours regarding Zach’s absence, dived deep into character-driven superhero cinema, broke down mind-blowing trailer drops from D23, caught up with special guest Phil (aka Viking), and talked about our upcoming charity initiatives.

1. Spider-Man: Brand New Day — Character Progression Over CGI Action
Zach kicked off the show addressing the rumours: no, he wasn’t dodging spoilers—it was strictly family business! Naturally, we spiralled straight into a spoilery review of the latest Spidey outing.
Overall, the verdict was overwhelmingly positive. What made this film stand out as one of the best Disney/Marvel collaborations in recent memory was its pivot toward deep character progression rather than non-stop CGI chaos. Sure, there were plenty of signature “flippity-doop” Spider-Man acrobatics, but the emotional anchor was the real standout.

D23 delivered full-throated hype this year with massive official casting calls and trailer drops that left us completely speechless.

The long-awaited mutant era is officially taking shape with a stacked cast for the 2028 X-Men film, directed by Jack Schreier (Thunderbolts*):
- Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister / Nathaniel Essex (brilliantly teased under his Nathan Milbury persona).

The trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is a masterclass in atmospheric dread. Opening with Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) seated on his throne surrounded by swirling green magic, it immediately establishes an apocalyptic tone. Seeing a devastated New York City, Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards screaming at Victor, and Doom effortlessly deflecting Thor’s Stormbreaker before raising Sentinels from the earth gave us absolute chills.
Vision Quest & Other Highlights
Slated for October 14, 2026, Vision Quest promises a surreal, mindscape-driven narrative akin to The Sandman. With James Spader returning as Ultron in human avatar form, it looks to pull heavy emotional threads from WandaVision and Agatha All Along.

We were thrilled to welcome back our Favorite West Coast creator, Phil (Viking’s Collectables)! Fresh off his trip to Melbourne for the Cardboard Dreams card show, Phil gave us an insider look at his content creation journey—from his legendary “Chili Daddy” pack openings to something far more meaningful.

After Phil’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer again, he decided to utilize his social platform to give back to the community in a big way. Partnering with Card Essentials, Goliath Collectibles, Dolly Rips, and creators like Deep Pocket Monsters, Phil has put together a custom Squirtle-themed 12-pocket binder loaded with high-value cards, vintage slabs, and first-edition GRAILS.

The Frantic team is gearing up for their 4th annual 72-hole golf marathon at Hunter Valley Golf Course to raise money for Cancer Council Australia. Zach is even adding a 20kg weighted vest challenge for every $50 raised!
