Blood Drive, Future Cult Classic
Blood Drive is set in the dystopian “distant future” of alternate 1999, after the “Great Fracking Quakes” have literally split the United States apart, with a giant ravine called “the Scar” being formed roughly along the route of the Mississippi River. A megacorporation, Heart Enterprises, exploits strange discoveries from the bottom of the Scar to become ubiquitous across American politics, society, and the economy. Meanwhile, as a result of environmental decline, water has become scarce and gasoline prohibitively expensive.
The series features Los Angeles Police Department officer Arthur Bailey (Alan Ritchson), a.k.a. “Barbie”, who is forced to partner up with Grace D’Argento (Christina Ochoa), a dangerous femme fatale who has an agenda of her own, as they take part in a death race in which the cars run on human blood – the titular Blood Drive, whose master of ceremonies, Julian Slink (Colin Cunningham), is secretly a Heart employee. As they make their way through the Blood Drive, Arthur and Grace realize that Heart has been involved in their own pasts as well.

Now living in Australia, there are a lot of times that a show comes out and we just don’t here anything about it, normally they get cancelled and it just never apears on our radar. Blood drive, was one of those shows for me. I knew nothing baout this show at all. “How did you discover it?” I here you ask. Well, Watch Mojo it how I discovered it. I believe it was a shows that had amazing plans for future seasons but got cancelled or somthing along those lines. I sore Alan and was like “What the Fuck. I didnt even know he did this between blue moutain and Reacher. Then i Watch the first episode and well FUCK.
This show is the definition of balls to the wall sex, drugs and rock’n’roll. It takes Death Race (Not the statham one) and gives it a super Grind House style to it, with the over the top sexuality, rediculas blood and gore and super campy storylines and makes it a good old fasion fun time.
There are episode with Vampires, there are zombies, amazonians, a sex crazed STD that turns people into cum covered zombies, that episode also has twins that want to bang each other but cant as they are carriers for the std.
Alan Plays one of the Co-leads of the show, Barbie as he is nicked named. He was a cop who went to bust up the start of the Blood Drive and ends up gettin roped into the race. Through out the season he turns from a goodie to shoes cop into a Grind House Bad ass. His partner in the show is Grace and kick-ass, take no crap chick who is in the race to get the money to save her sister. Grace is played by Christina Ochoa.
One of the other characters in the show, that you will see and instantly be like. “I know that guy, where do i know that guy from?” is the character Julian Slink, The Grand Master of the Blood Drive. he is played by actor Collin Cuningham and you would have seen him as a bit actor in nearly every scifi show out there. But Want I knew him from was one of the best Alien Invasion shows out there. Falling Sky, where he plays the bad ass John Pope.
His role in this is amazing and you just know that he was having so much fun with it. I mean gets to over the top act, get cover in blood when smashing someone to death with a brief case and have just out there costumes. Would have been a great job and he makes for a fantastic Bad guy.
The other two character who get a little screen time are the android Aki and the ex cop now Heart robot lover Christopher. Aki is a great character she goes from being a crazy android to be a loved up crazy android. She as well as Colin must have had a ball playing this character. They do not get to interact to much with the rest of the cast at the beginning of the show, but get more towards the end of the season. As crazy as their plot is throughout the show, it works so well.
And then there is the other main character. The car. Tho body eating beast of American muscle car. Oh did i forget to mention that all the cars that race in the show don’t run of fuel. They run on human blood, you chuck in human parts into the engine bay and it fills up the car with blood. This gives for some of the funniest blood sprays of the show. AMAZING.
All in all this show is amazing and I truley think everyone should watch it for some fun in the sun weirdness, that truley desrved to get more. But if we did get more, Alan probably would not have ened up as Reacher, end the world would have been a colder place for that.
